Back to School

Back to School

Morning all! Deborah here with you this morning. Kat asked me to make a card for her to give to a friend who is off to Cardiff University shortly. Of course, I said, no problem. Here's the card:

I have to give credit for the design to the ever talented Jennifer McGuire, I pretty much CASEd the card. I used Hero Arts (and Ink Blot Shop) Please Deliver stamp set for the main image on the front of the card. There are several border images in the set, but I thought the pencils would be perfect and they are easy to colour, I used Copics for this card. For the words I used a couple of older stamp sets from Altenew - School Days and Happy Dreams. To create the flap I used Hero Arts Rectangle PeekABoo Doors - I used the largest die.

I started by making the card base from black cardstock. Next, I cut a panel of white card longer than I needed to make sure that I got the whole of the image stamped at the bottom of the card. I coloured the pencils with Copic markers, I didn't do any fancy shading, just plain colouring. I used the largest of the peekaboo door dies to create the door. Once die cut, I put the panel back in my stamp positioner and stamped the words and arrow image. I then trimmed the panel to fit the card. I cut another piece of white card, slightly smaller than this, adhered it to the front of the card and placed the stamped panel on top. I opened the door and penciled around the inside. I then put the cardfront back in my positioner and stamped another image:

I erased the pencil lines and used strong tape adhesive to attached the stamped pencil panel on the front of the card. The door lies flat on the front, but pops up slighly to show that there's something to see. I did add sparkle to the pencils with a clear shimmer brush.

I cut a white panel for the inside onto which I stamps some words from School Days. I know that it says 'back to school', but a university is just a very large school for big kids! I think the addition of the second line works very well - as this is a road of discovery for the kids leading to their future. I added a few stars for fun.

Kat is off to the University of Nottingham on Saturday - she is so excited, and a bit nervous too. It's going to be very different for this year's cohort, but they'll make it their own and have fun and learn too (hopefully). Anyway, that's all for now. See you again next week.

Deborah, x
