Birthday Hugs and Kisses

Birthday Hugs and Kisses

My card today is nothing like the card I planned to make.  Do you ever have one of those days when you need to make something but your mojo has gone a wandering and you have no idea what to make?  I get them regularly and have different ways of finding inspiration - one is to shop my stash with my eyes closed and that's what I did today.  I'm very behind on sorting my stash so I have a couple of boxes of "awaiting filing" so I closed my eyes and shoved my hand in and whatever I pulled out had to be the focus of my make.   That one item this time around was Altenew's Leaf Mix Die set which I've had for ages but haven't used yet.

I cut the blank leaf from some folded scrap paper so I could play around with the shapes - I was thinking of making a star shape or a faux embossed look but once I'd put 3 leaves together I loved the shape so that became my jumping off point.  Then I thought colours - fresh spring greens and a hint of yellow.   So I die cut 3 blanks and inked up with mowed lawn and rustic wilderness oxides and then sprayed some water for distortion.  I die cut 3 of the open layers again from white and used twisted citron and peeled paint to blend those and layered them over the darker green bases.   Next I took the 3 shapes that don't fully match the base leaves (although they will still layer over them) and coloured those with squeezed  lemonade and fossilized amber but they didn't pop.  I had some paper on my desk and liked the rusty shade so I added that into the mix using cracking campfire and that was the missing piece that brought it all together.   I used the paper plus a strip of yellow on the base card with some splatters of gold, bronze and green metallic paints before sticking the leaf motive on top with a few rusty enamel dots.   I stamped a sentiment from MFT's Celebrate Everything in cracking campire to finish.

Although it looks nothing like I initially planned, I'm really pleased with the end result, probably more so than I would have been with my first idea.   I might even have a go with the Tropical Leaf Mix set and tropical colours to see how that turns out too.  Sometimes it's all about the creative process and just going with the flow!
