Home Is Where You Plant It

Home Is Where You Plant It

A green fingered friend moved house recently so I needed an appropriate new home card and I figured something plant based would suit her perfectly.  I didn't really know exactly what I wanted to make when I started, but Hosta Embossing Folder from Altenew was my jumping off point.  If I'm in a creative funk, I often pick a product and just use it a few times until I get an idea I want to run with - here I knew I wanted the richly detailed and textured leaves as a background so started with a simple full square of it.  I played around with adding detail to that, but it didn't really work, so then I tried die cutting letters and running those through the folder too - texture on texture - now we were onto something!  I used the Essential Alphabet dies from MFT but then decided to swap out the O in home for a heart which came from their Spell Anything Alphabet die.  I probably have more alphabet dies than anything else in my stash - I love them - the more sizes you have, the possibilities to spell out anything you need are pretty much endless!

So, I decided I wanted to add some plants - they didn't work over the texture of the hosta, so I cut a circle of that just enough to house the word and I added a hand written sentiment around it (you could spell it out with an alphabet stamp, but hand written is sometimes faster and easier - especially as I wanted it to follow the circle.

Now came the plants to make the sentiment make sense - for these I used the Sitting Pretty Accessories Die from The Greetery.  Just a few scraps of card from my stash and you've quickly grown an impressive garden!

Hopefully this gives you a few ideas about how to layer texture and how to look at different ways of creating a new home card - it doesn't always need to have a house on it!

NEWS FROM THE STORE

This week we will have the following in store:

  • I'll be finishing adding our latest Altenew delivery this afternoon.

  • The MFT Card Kit and some restocks may also be added today, if not by Tuesday (we rarely add new stock on Mondays as we have a whole weekend of orders to catch up on packing and order shipping takes priority over everything else in our store)

  • After a long break in our ability to source them, we finally have some Art Impressions items back in store.  We have some items from their watercolour range, the humourous range and their interactive range with matching dies - the matchbox series is really fun!

  • More new releases from Altenew with a few more restocks.

  • A brand new release from The Greetery as well as restocks on most items.

Happy Crafting

Tara
