Ink Blending on Solid Stamps

Ink Blending on Solid Stamps

I was really attracted to the decorative dots on the bit bold florals on the new Sending Smiles stamps set from Reverse Confetti.   There are 3 layers to the stamps - an outline, the dotted details and a solid stamp so I thought I would share a technique for colouring solid stamps in one go today with a little ink blending on the stamp itself.

I stamped the outline first in black and then took the solid stamp and inked it up with tattered rose distress oxide.  Then before pressing it to the card stock, I took a detailed blender and sponged some abandoned coral directly on top of the tattered rose in the centre of the stamp fading out towards the edge of each petal.  When you stamp onto the outline you now get a shaded flower in one stamped impression.  The dotted detail was then simply stamped on top using ripe persimmon.   I used the matching die to cut them all out.

I applied the same technique to the leaves using shabby shutters, twisted citron and crushed olive, and squeezed lemonade and wild honey for the flower centres.

To create the card and used the Stitched Daisies Cover Panel Die also from Reverse Confetti to add some background interest in a tonal card.   For the sentiment I wanted them to match the flowers exactly so I used the direct to paper technique to colour some white card as tattered rose and then stamped in ripe persimmon on top.   I arranged the flowers and leaves around the sentiment allowing bits to hang over the edges for more interest and finisehd with a few scattered enamel dots in a matching pale pink.

I hope you give this technique a try.   I find it work best with pigment inks rather than dye based ones.   If you want to use dye inks, I find it easier to stamp one shade and then ink up the stamp wth the blender tool where I want the shading and stamp again.  Experiment with your inks on some scrap card and see where the technique can take you.
