It's all about the Cake!

It's all about the Cake!

When it comes to birthdays, you can't go wrong with cake!!... so what better image to put on a birthday card, one of those ones you keep handy in your emergancy reserves collection!!

MFT have a great couple of cake sets in their latest release and the way the dies cut the pieces means it is easy to use different coloured card and layer the images up...

I used two shades of brown and a cream card stock with the Piece of Cake die then added extra detail with texture stamps to make the sponge and decorative icing. The dots are from a Flora & Fauna stamp set and the stripes are from a different set here. It also helps to sponge the edges of die cuts to lift them from looking a bit flat.

The candle cuts the base and the stripes plus the flame so it all layers nicely then I added shading with ink and copic marker. The sentiment from Bitty Birthday Wishes but to be honest it would have been okay without it too.

The other die is the Frosted Cupcake which has some extra dies to layer up the frosting and cake case..

I just added a touch of ink blending along the edges for these die cut pieces then once assembled, I added a few irredescent star sprinkles. The sentiment for this card comes from Concord & 9th's Here's the Scoop stamp set and I used the coordinating dies to cut the banner out as well

Both cards are about 4" square and I used the strip left over from creating a slimline card to make these card bases... which means nothing goes to waste. I cut my own curvy aperture from scrap paper to ink a background through and then spritzed water onto it for that lovely spotty look... I love how they turned out :)

Thanks for stopping by and catch you next week :)
