Metallic Mandala Magic

Metallic Mandala Magic

Hope you're all enjoying the extended weekend - if you're not in the UK, then tomorrow is a bank holiday here so there is no post so we'll be taking the day off and will return to shipping on Tuesday.

In the meantime, I've been playing with mandalas and metallics and have 3 shimmery cards to share using Altenew's Blooming Mandalas stamp set.

Firstly - I went for elegant simplicity embossing the half mandala in copper onto navy cardstock and pairing that with a copper embossed sentiment on a double layer of cardstock to make it stand out.   Classy, simple and shimmery!

The half mandala is a perfect half, so you can stamp it twice to get a whole one.  I wanted to stick with simple embossing but to change it up and make it more fun I did it double colours and double embossing.

I embossed in copper onto green and in plantinum onto teal card and sliced each half mandala into four pieces disecting along the same pattern where the edge is on the stamp (through the tear drop, flower, slipper shapes)  Then when you piece it back together you get a really fun pattern that joins back up to be an (almost) perfect whole.  (I was a bit off on some of my cuts but I think it still passes on most of the joins.)

For my last card I wanted to bring in metallics in a different way and add more colour.  Its a great image to colour - sometimes I love to colour flowers or people or animals and get as real as I can with shading, sometimes I just want to sit in front of the TV and do some easy colouring and patterns like this fit that bill perfectly.   Here I stamped in versafine clair black as I wanted a really strong black line as I was going for a medieval stained glass window vibe.

I used Altenew paints to colour the pattern - mixing some standard colours with gold, purple and light green metallics.  It's always hard to photograph metallics so this really isn't showing how beautifully shimmery it is - the Altenew paints are so highly pigmented the metallics shine like a mirror in real life and a little paint goes a really long way!

I liked the contrast of the tiny birthday sentiment with the big image - also means the sentiment doens't cover up too much of the lovely pattern.

Hope that's inspired you to play with your mandala stamps in a different way - all mandalas have some form of symetry so any set should be cut-up-able!

NEWS FROM THE STORE

The store is closed on Monday for the bank holiday so we'll start to process orders again on Tuesday and will take us a day or two to catch up on shipping.

We are expecting the following to arrive this week although there are some issues with things being sent to the wrong country and some customs clearance issues so we don't yet have a firm date for any of it:

  • The stamps and dies from the MFT kit release plus a few restocks;

  • The Winter Catalogue and quite a lot of restocks from Hero Arts (half of this landed and stanstead, then was flown to Belgium and is currently in Paris so hopefully it's working its way back to us over the bank holiday weekend!);

  • Restocks from Lawn Fawn - we have over 120kg worth of restocks coming but they are currently stuck in customs clearance in the USA;

  • The new release from Sugar Pea Designs has been ordered (although one item was already sold out before we got our order in) and we're awaiting shipping;

  • Crackling Campfire inks from Tim Holtz are on order along with the older oxide sets we're out of and some of Tim's older and new stamps.  We're waiting for the order to be processed and shipped;

That's about it for this week, but there are a couple of big relases coming up in the middle of September so as always keep an eye on this weekly post and our Facebook page for up to the minute arrivals news.

Happy Crafting!

Tara
