More Brilliant Butterflies

More Brilliant Butterflies

Good morning! Deborah here with you today. I’ve been playing with My Favorite Things More Brilliant Butterflies and have three cards to share with you this morning. To create the butterflies takes four steps. It helps if you have a stamp positioner, but it is perfectly possible to make the butterflies without. Here are some photos showing my process:

I start by using the More Brilliant Butterflies dies to cut out several butterflies from white card. Next, I put one of the negative spaces in my stamp positioner and line up the filigree butterfly wings, stamp with Versamark ink and add embossing powder and heat set. Next, I line up the solid wings (either top or bottom) in the negative space, replace the die cut butterfly and stamp with a coloured ink. I repeat this process for the other set of wings. I repeat these steps until I have stamped and inked all my die cut butterflies.

The first card I have to share is CASed from a card by Yana Smakula (a member of MFT design team). Yana used an acetate card over a white notecard. I skipped the acetate and simply made the card. I started by stamping a sentiment from MFT Anything But Basic Encouragement stamp set in the centre of the card. I created lots of butterflies using the method above. I heat embossed with gold powder and used shades of red and orange for the solid part of the wings. I used a thin strip of tape down the centre of each butterfly and on two of the larger butterflies I added some dimensional tape to hold the wings up.

Inside, the card I used another of the sentiments from Anything But Basic Encouragement and stamped this in black ink. I had a butterfly spare, so added that to the inside too. This card has gone to my aunt who had surgery a couple of weeks ago to remove a cancerous tumour. She is now cancer free and working on her recovery. She is one of the strongest women I know, and I can’t wait to be able to visit her and give her a big hug!!

I had lots of butterflies left over, so I made a couple more cards.

This card used up the remaining red and orange butterflies. I kept the card simple. I cut a strip of black cared and adhered that to the front of my card. I stamped another of the sentiments from the Anything But Basic Encouragement stamp set. I used dimensional pads to adhere the butterfly on the blank panel. I love the way the black makes the butterfly pop. Inside the card is remarkably simple – I just adhered the last butterfly left over. There’s lots of space for my message.

My last card is also quite clean and simple. However, for this card I used shades of blue and green ink and silver embossing powder. The inside is just as simple with only a butterfly and space for my message. The message on the front of the card comes from MFT Bitty Hugs and Kisses.

I think these two cards are going to my kids. Thanks for sticking with me. See you again next week.
