Pirate Box Card

Pirate Box Card

I found a great tutorial this week on You Tube for a Fold Flat Box card that got me thinking what stamps I could use with the interactive design. The video is here and it's a card that folds flat for easy mailing but has a nice surprise inside when the recipient opens it up. I've used MFT's Party like a Pirate to make a card suitable for a child but this design could lend itself for lots of themes.

As you can see I kept the front view quite simple, the young girl has spotted the ship through her telescope and I chose to put the sentiment on a belly band to help keep the card closed. When the card opens you can see the young pirate on board the ship with his birthday loot :)

I followed the tutorial for cutting and folding the cardstock then whilst the piece was still flat I inked the central scene. I used masking tape and scrap paper to cover areas then added colour and stamping to make the boat, sea and sky....

I followed the instructions and coloured a small strip to match the wooden boards which I folded for the pop up element to adhere the pirate to. This piece has to be attached to both the back and side of the box for it to allow the image to rise and fall so you have to think about that when selecting your design and stamps.

It's certainly a fun card to make and not too difficult either, the tutorial is here..... I do recommend making up a prototype first so you can test out ideas and image sizes for your designs before getting started with stamping and colouring..... I hope you give it a try.

Thanks for stopping by, catch you next week :)
