Playing With Paste

Playing With Paste

I like to try new products (when they don't sell out too fast!) so thought I'd give the new stencil paste from Lawn Fawn a go even though "messy" crafts aren't normally my bag, I figured even I could manage paste and a stencil!

I wanted to do Christmas cards so I picked the Knitted stencil from Waffle Flower Crafts to be my background and decided to go with white paste but colour it as Lawn Fawn suggested to get more from it.   For my first attempt I used my favourite colour from the Versafine Clair range to give the reinker a try - Warm Breeze - but I think because its a pigment ink not a watercolour or dye based ink it didn't blend into the paste at all well.   However I didn't want to waste the paste so I tried it anyhow and actually I think it turned out just like flecked yarn so worked perfectly for my card.

I used a square card base, cut out a circle and then popped the remainder up with foam to add some depth and interest and so I could frame the circle with some leaves.   I used one of the leave shapes from Lawn Fawn's new Christmas Garland which is really versatile as you can make round wreathes, swags or any shape you like really with the different parts.  I finished with a simple die cut sentiment using Reverse Confetti's Warm Hugs Die and decorating the half wreathwith silver berries and bows aslo in the Garland die.

For the second card, I switched the medium I used to colour the paste and opted for the new watercolour inks from Concord and 9th, which come with a handy pipette to perfect for getting individual drops of colour.   I picked Sea Glass and put 3 blobs of paste on my mixing palette and then added 1 drop to the first, 2 to the second and 3 to the third blob of paste so I could do an ombre design dark fading into light - which I think shows better in this close-up.

I added this to another square base card with the same sentiment.  I created a frame with a rectangle die and added a wooden frame using Hero Arts infinity dies.  Decorated with swags using the Lawn Fawn die in two shades of green overlapped with red bows and berries.

For a more simple version I did a less bulky layer putting the paste directly onto the card front  and just doing one shade of coloured paste - you will need at least 300gsm card for this or the paste will warp your card.  The Lawn Fawn paste dries SUPER FAST - be sure to have a bowl on hand to pop your stencils straight into after use or it will dry and be hard to clean off (same goes for your hands which I was NOT quick enough to wash lol!)

I switched to a ready made wreath for this one - Waffle Flower's Mistletoe Wreath - using two shades of card again and layering it up white glitter card for the berries.  I cut the circle that comes out of the middle down smaller with another circle die and added a white embossed sentiment from one of the latest Lawn Fawn Christmas sets (sorry this one sold out, but we have an order in so we are hoping they have it in stock and will be shipping our order soon but we know they are still playing catch up on their release so can't say when we will get anything or what is in stock as they don't have a live ordering system)

Hope that gives you some ideas of how to colour up your pastes so you can make them work double-duty.

NEWS FROM THE STORE

  • We are working on adding the latest release from Sugar Pea Designs today.

  • We have restocks on the latest Concord and 9th release (which sold out so much faster than expected) in transit and DHL says it will be here Wednesday (although if customs is fast it might be Tuesday)

  • As stated above, we've re-ordered all the sold out Lawn Fawn items from the lastest release plus whatever restocks you've requested.   They usually take around 3 weeks to process wholesale orders but are busy catching up on the release so it may be longer.  They don't have a live ordering system (ie we can't see what is and isn't sold out) so we just order and cross our fingers and only find out what we're getting when they are ready to ship it and invoice us.   We'll let you know what it's coming.

  • We have a delivery from Altenew pending, they sent 4 boxes but sadly so far we only have one and can't track the other 3 so have launch a trace with DHL.   Hopefully we'll get it at some point this week.

  • Adding The Greetery is ongoing and likely to take at least another week or two - adding more than 2 years worth of an entire back catalogue is a massive undertaking particularly when you still have your "normal" workload too so please bear with us.

  • We are still not able to ship to the EU - we will tell you as soon as that changes.

That's all for this week - catch you next time.

Tara
