Stained Glass

Stained Glass

Bit late to the blog tonight with adding stock and going live in our VIPs group on Facebook, but here are a couple of quick projects using the new Abstract Seascape Slim Cover Die from Altenew.   I love any form of glass - I gravitate to it at every craft fair I go to, and this die really reminded me of stained glass so I had a go at making my own stained glass panel for the window.

First off I tried acetate, but I wasn't totally happy with my results.  My copics didn't give strong enough coverage so I may have to try it again with alcohol inks from ranger instead, but as I didn't have the colours I wanted I had a second go with vellum instead.  This was the acetate version.

For both this version and the vellum I used the same technique - die cut from grey card and then glued a piece of acetate/vellum over the back of the entire piece.  I used copic markers to colour the materials on both sides (as neither acetate nor vellum are porous the colour sits on the top so you can only get one layer of colour, a second lifts it back off).   The vellum took the colour much better and is still transparent - it looks more like victorian stained glass which was less clear anyhow ;-)

To make it more like a hanging ornament and to tidy up the back of the vellum where the colouring wasn't so clean, I used tape to secure a white die cut to the rear with some string sandwiched at the top.

So as not to waste the acetate version, I grabbed some scraps from my card drawer and cut out some elements to fill in over the acetate and make a quick card.  I added it to the left of a 5 x 7 card base and stamped a simple sentiment from MFT's Essential Sentiments using the same coloured card as the sky.   I like the clean white space - would be cool for those tricky guy cards.
