You Are My World

You Are My World

As we have Stamping Bella back in store, it seemed rude to not instantly get one inked up and coloured in.  I've not done much colouring recently as I seem to be doing more die cutting than stamping, so it was fun to get back to what drew me to card making in the first place - playing with pens and pencils!

I went straight for one of the Spec-tacular designs from Amy Glatiotis - Spec-tacular Earth and Moon - this will actually be my Anniversary card for Rick (he's seeing it early but that's not unusual and he'll forget by July!) as he's really into space, and our recently holiday was built around visiting an observatory which was really cool - see the dark sky was pretty impressive as it looked like someone had tipped glitter in the sky there were so many stars!

I created a background on grey card using distress inks following a photo of the milky way for inspiration.  Using a dark card to start a dark background makes it easier as you don't have to blank out the white so hard.  I started on the diagonal white using Unicorn White from Hero Arts and then blending towards the darker shades.  To get the stars I splattered and painted some pearlescent white opal watercolour paints over the top.

For the image itself, I coloured it with pencils (a mixture of Faber Castel Polychromos and Castel Arts Pasteltints.  Once completed I cut around it with scissors to get the die cut look as I wanted a white outline to make it pop off the background.   I know sometimes people struggle with images that don't come with dies, I find it helpful to lightly pencil a line around the image so I can cut to that.

I wanted my sentiment to be big and bold, but without covering up too much background so I thought it would be fun to have the sentiment following the shape of the stamp - sentiments don't always have to be straight and blocky!     I used my favourite die for spelling out sentiments - Connected from MFT - it's a really useful size for sentiments.   I used Starfruit card from the new colour range from Concord and 9th as a nod to one of his other loves - Star Wars - it's a similar colour to the words that open each movie and the colour pops off the space background really well.

I want to create some more space backgrounds for some other projects so as this once came out well I might try and video how I did it if I get time to set up the gear so if you aren't already - subscribe to our YouTube channel to get a notification of any videos I upload.

Happy Crafting!
