Sea-gull thanks

Sea-gull thanks

On our recent anniversary weekend in Scarborough we stayed in a lovely little hotel very close to the outdoor concert venue and the owners surprised us on the morning of our anniversary with a card and balloon outside the door - what a surprise when we opened it to go down for breakfast!

So I wanted to make them an appropriate thank you card and so I went for a sea themed, seagull and mixed in the bright red balloon as a nod to the one they left for us.

It's a very simple card, with just 3 dies and an embossing folder, but I am really pleased without how it turned out.

I started with the just back in stock Whispering Waves Embossing Folder from Altenew - the detail in this one is stunning!  I just used a piece of thick white card, embossed it then painted it with Altenew Watercolour paints, in shades of blue (and yellow for the sand) and then left it dry.   The water does remove some of the definition so once it was dry I popped it back into the folder for a second pass (its easy to line up) and then I dry brushed some titanium white paint onto the raised edges and some runny bits on the beach.

I added the largest gull from Waffle Flower Craft's Inquisitive Seagulls Die - colouring his beak and eyes with markers and added him to the bottom corner - glueing down everything but the beak.

I used Lawn Fawn's Party Balloons with red foil card to cut the balloon and tied some black twine around it, once it was glued in place I then popped the trailing twine under the beak of the gull and glued that down too.

To finish the card I added a simple thanks sentiment using the same red card as the balloon to bring the design together using Lawn Fawn's Scripty Thanks Die.

I loved using the folder so much I need to come up with some more sea themed designs as I want to paint some more sea-scapes!

Happy Crafting!
