The best thing about card making as a hobby I believe is that you can pretty much find products to make a card that suits ANY occasion no matter how random that may be, and today I have an example of a pretty niche event to make a card for!
Beanies, a local wholefoods co-operative is celebrating their 40th birthday today with a party and market in their car park and as one of my friends has been a customer for 39 years (I actually remember it opening when I was a teenager!) she's popping along and we thought it would be fun to make a card to celebrate their achievement.
We started with the brand new (and very well timed new arrival!) from Altenew - their Very Veggie Die set which includes great sized veg for focal images - you get a carrot, a tomato, a pepper, a head of broccoli and a bulb of garlic - all with layers labelled and easy to assemble.
To create the veg we die cut each from a piece of appropriately coloured card at the paler end of the final colour we wanted, die cut the layers and then used darker inks to add a little shading here and there to help them look more 3D. The stalks are all on one separate die, so again we cut those from a paler shade of green then used different shades to get different colours quickly.
Once assembled we started on the background - adding a little texture with The Greetery's Citrus Fields Embossing folder on some pale green card. We then took 2 circle dies and used them together to cut a thin green frame and used that to ground the veg and create a sort of vegetable wreath (you could double up your veg to get a fuller wreath).
To finish the card and celebrate the 40th birthday, we went with gold numbers using my all time favourite Bold Numerals Die from Altenew - I love the size of these numbers for big birthdays and anniversaries as they really make a statement.
My friend will be dropping the card off this afternoon so hopefully they are as pleased with it as she was after making it (I love helping non-card makers make a card as there is real joy when they see a technique for the first time as we can become a bit jaded when we've done it for so many years!)
