I've been having a hoot this week creating 3 birthday cards using the brand new Hoot Hoot Hooray set from Avery Elle - I just love the wild expressions on these owls and couldn't wait to ink them up.
For a couple of the cards I've used the owls as replacement letters in words - this is a fun trick that works well with lots of different sets - just pick an alphabet that roughly matches the size of your image and you're good to go. I used MFT's Impact Alphabet for these cards.
For the first card, the sentiment is SISTER - guess who we made it for lol! She loves an owl so this was the perfect set for her. I added one owl as the I and a second owl with the co-ordinating sentiment stamped into the banner. I coloured them with polychromos pencils and then cut them out with the matching die. I picked my colours based on the background papers - it helps to do it that way round as you can often find it easier to match pens to papers than the other way around. I created a bright backrground with some card and a sheet of paper from the Lawn Fawn All The Dots paper pad.
For the second card I did a similar trick, this time the card was larger than my paper pad so to fill the background I took slices of purple in dots and stripes and stacked them up - this is a useful trick for making bigger cards with smaller papers. For this one the owl replaced the O in TODAY and I added another banner-bearing owl on top of a number (MFT Impact Numbers) glued over a gold star (Hero Arts Star Infinity Die).
For the 3rd card I used another strip of dotty paper, topped with a sentiment created using MFT Connected Alphabet paired with The Greetery's Birthday Word die. I drew a line of blue above and below the paper to tie it all together.
Happy Crafting!
