Wicked Birthday

Wicked Birthday

Sorry I wanted to share this card yesterday to coincide with the new Lawn Fawn release but its been a really busy week and I didn't manage to finish making it until late last night. The new Halloween Mice I used have sold out, BUT THEY WILL BE BACK in September so still in time for Halloween makes and as you can see you can use them for birthday cards too!

As soon as I saw one of samples giving a pair of the mice the Wicked treatment I knew exactly what I wanted to make as that seen from the end of the movie is so powerful. I want my Elphaba mouse to really fly so thought the new Autumn breeze stencil was the perfect way to achieve that so I started my card with this element. I used Confetti stickles spread through the stencil on acetate and it takes that around 2 hours to dry. I did it in two parts as I wanted to create a thin swoosh off the swirled part so used the end of the stencil to create that after the swirled part had dried fully.

I stamped the mice, coloured with pencils and a little glitter for Glinda then fussy cut them out (ignoring the tails - I drew them back in after)

To create the scene I wanted the tower and I really wanted Elphaba to be flying so I used the Pull N Slide Surprise Die to create the base along with the Build-A-Castle Die to create the emerald tower. The interactive die is really easy to use but if you want clear instructions just watch the video on the Lawn Fawn YouTube channel.

To turn the castle into a tower I needed double the elements - I created one full castle which sits on the folding mechanism of the die. Cut from emerald card with some soft inking on the edges. To make it look more like the tower in the movie, I used a small round die to swap the window from an arched window to a round one. I added Glinda onto the balcony and tucked the swirling leaves behind one turrett before adding Elphaba onto the end ready to fly high!

I added a separate thin strip of the same green card on the bit of the mechanism you glue to the pull tab - it needs to be separate so it doesn't impeed the movement.

Then to give the impression of a full tower I cut a strip of the same emerald card to the same width of the full castle with enough length to meet the bottom of the slider mechanism and glued it to the bottom of the card only and letting the top part that crossed the frame of the mechanism to remain unglued so the top part could slip behind it when closed. I added two more towers and one balcony and glued them to the top of this panel, again taking care not to have any glue behind the overhangs. Now when the mechanism closes it looks like one tall tower.

To create the sentiments I stamped and embossed in green powder the It's Your Birthday! (from the new Silly Goose stamp) onto some of the blue background as I wanted a simple colour story and added it to the tower. For the hidden message I used a sentiment from Halloween Mice to tie into the Wicked theme. As I said, this sold out faster than expected but we'll get it back in September.

Hopefully that's given you a fun idea to play around with - you could use just some elements like the swirl of leaves behind a bigger witch leaving a bigger window too!

Happy Crafting!
