21st Birthday

21st Birthday

Morning! Deborah here today. Hold onto your hats – I’ve only got one card to share with you today. It’s a special one that my daughter asked me to make for her best friend. I’ve used products from My Favorite Things and Concord & 9th.

Like most kids these days, both Kat and her friend, Rachel, like to play computer games on the X-Box or Play Station. Rachel turns 21 on Saturday (the day after Kat turns 20!!) and Kat asked me to make a special card based on Rachel’s favourite game Overwatch and the character Widowmaker. I found an image of Widowmaker on the Internet along with a game controller in the game colours.

This is a large 8” square card. I started by printing the character image in best quality on white paper, cut it to size and layered the panel on black card. In my stash I found the perfect stamp set from My Favorite Things – Level Up. The sentiments are perfect for birthdays but can also be used for encouragement cards. I stamped the ‘epic birthday’ sentiment in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink (my go to black ink for sentiments) towards the bottom left of the card panel. Under the sentiment I adhered a ‘21’ number from my stash which I coloured pink to match the character. I finished the front of the card with a game controller. I used the co-ordinating Game Controller die set also from My Favorite Things. This is great die set – with a large and small version. I die cut the large body and all the little buttons from white card. I used Copic markers to colour the game controller to match the image I found on the Internet. I made the top button look like the X-Box button! After I adhered all the little buttons in place, I added glossy accents to give them some shine. For the final flourish I drew the controller cable freehand with a black marker.

Inside the card I cut a mat layer of black card. On the white panel, I used Concord & 9th’s Yay for Birthdays stamp set to create the two-step ‘Yay’ in pink and purple. Over the top of this I stamped two more sentiments from Level Up in black ink, and called it done. I wanted to the birthday cupcake from Yay for Birthdays, but Kat said no!!

Here's a close up of the game controller - I sketched the design on before colouring and then tried to create some depth with shading the Copic markers. I'm pleased how it turned out.

That’s it from me today. Hope you’re all keeping safe and well. See you next week.

Deborah, x
