Birthday Card for My Mum

Birthday Card for My Mum

Hello, good morning! Deborah here with you today and I’m sharing an extremely special birthday card. I made for my mum. She was 82 years young on Monday, and we had a super day celebrating at the local garden centre.

This is a large 7¾” square card. I started by cutting a piece of white card 6½” square. Using my stamp position, I stamped the large floral image from Concord & 9th’s In Bloom stamp set in a soft grey ink. Next, I used the matching In Bloom Stencil pack to colour the image. I placed the flower stencil over the inked image, masked off the areas not being used, and inked the flowers with pink and orange inks, starting with the lightest shades and building colour from the middle of the flowers to the darkest inks. I changed the leaf stencil and used greens for the leaves and shades of brown for the stem. I next used the complete flower and leaf mask, put this over the coloured image and spattered pink and gold shimmer inks over the background. Once dry, I put the image back into my stamp positioner and restamped the large floral image with Versafine Clair Nocturne ink – this gives a very dark and crisp black image. I added some sparkle to the image by colouring some of the stripes on the flowers with glitter pens. I decided not to add a greeting to the front of the card. I adhered the coloured panel with dimensional tape to a black 7” square piece of card and adhered the whole lot to the front of my large note card.

Inside the card, I cut another 7” square black card for the mat layer. On the white panel – again 6½” square – I stamped the large floral image with a very soft grey ink. I used Altenew’s Just a Number stamp set for the greeting. The set includes this bold ‘happy birthday’ greeting which I stamped in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink. I added one of the fun sentiments from the set in bright red ink. We didn’t have 82 candles – that would be silly, and dangerous!!

As this is such a special card, I also decorated the envlope. I stamped the large floral image on the front of the envelope in black ink. I also added a couple of the flowers to the flap on the back. Mum was delighted with the card, and she still has it up in her flat! That’s all from me today. Keep safe and see you soon.
