Birthday Rose

Birthday Rose

Good morning! Deborah here with you today. I can hardly believe it’s July already – this year is absolutely flying by. I’ve an elegant birthday card to share with you today – I made it for my mother-in-law, she’s 80 years old today.

This is a one-layer card – inspired by the current challenge at Less is More. I've mixed a new Concord & 9th stencil along with a couple of old C&9 stamp sets. I stamped the large outline rose image, from Painted Rose, in black onto an A6 note card which measures 6¼” x 4½”. I masked off the rose and used the Confetti Dots turnabout stencil to create a subtle background in pink and orange. I didn’t use the stencil as a turnabout, I simply inked in pink and moved the stencil and inked with orange. Next, I removed the mask from the outline and used the two-step stamps to add colour to the rose. I stamped the large solid in orange ink and used red ink for the detail stamp. The leaves are also a two-step image. I like the loose, splatter effect on this image. I finished the front by adding a simple birthday greeting in black ink.

Inside the card, I cut a mat layer of black card. On the white panel, I stamped the outline rose in soft grey and added the greeting in black ink.

My mother-in-law is a keen gardener, and she loves roses, so this was fun to make for her. That’s all from me today. See you again next week.

Deborah, x
