New Member of the Family

I've got a card to share today featuring one of my favourite techniques - faux embossing. I love this technique - basically any solid shaped die will work but I've used the new Dog Silhouettes Die from Newton's Nook this time as my friend just got a new puppy so I wanted to make her a card to welcome it.
For this technique you just die cut the elements repeatedly and then set about making a pattern with them - this is the part I love as it's like doing a jigsaw without the picture to guide you and I love a jigsaw! The trick is to have some bits hanging off the edges. I tend to fill in the biggest elements first, work down to the small to fill in the gaps and then once glued, cut off the hanging bits, and turn them to use the "waste" in other places. If you want to really give it definition - add two layers to each shape.
I often do tone-on-tone with the background for this technique so it really does look like you just used an embossing folder, but on this ocassion I opted for a fun repeat pattern instead using the Dogs Life Paper Pad aslo from Newton's Nook.
I finished with a sentiment from Destination Love - also from Newton's Nook as it fit my message but also as it was on my desk as it will be featured in my blog on Sunday for a completely different theme!
Hope it gives you an idea of how to use your dies for a different technique.
Happy Crafting!
