Lesia Zgharda Intro Week Day 5 - Doggone Merry Christmas

Apologies to those who've been looking for the card from Lesia herself we promised to share on Friday - but on top of lots of issues with bombings cutting off power and the internet this week, she has now caught covid too so needs to take some time to get better.   We're sending healing vibes to Ukraine.

I'm finishing up our week of inspiration with Lesia Zgharda's Stamps with a Christmas card that's perfect for dog lovers.

I used the Dog with a Candy Cane stamp, which is a lovely headshot and can look like a lot of breeds depending on how you colour it.  I know some of our customers find colouring realistic stamps quite intimidating so I wanted to go with a quick watercolour technique.  Colouring this whole image took me less than 3 minutes!

I stamped the dog in versamark ink and embossed it with a detailed gold powder onto a smooth watercolour paper.  I used a loose watercolour wash to flood the dog with a golden brown hue, and let it dry a little before adding a few areas with the same colour to get some depth.  The embossing stops the watercolour from running (you could use black for a more normal stamped image look, but as this was Christmas I thought the gold would tie in well)  I did the same with blue on the scarf then used a fine brush to added darker blue stripes and red chevrons and his black nose and eyes.

I used scissors to trim around him, with a small border and glued him to a bauble (cut with an old die - if you don't have a bauble die in your stash - you could create one with a simple circle die and add a bow on top to get the same effect)

To make it into a card, I added some Christmassy papers from my stash - determined to use my hundreds of untouched pads this year, then added a blue frame with Waffle Flower's Nesting Piercing Ticket Frames Dies.

To finish I added one of the fun sentiment stamps in Lesia's range - Doggone Merry Christmas in red ink to tie the colours together.
