Like Jen on Saturday, I was inspried by the heatwave to create a fun beach themed card this weekend so I have a thank you card with a difference today.
I really wanted to play with the new Coastline die and stencil from Waffle Flower Crafts as it gave me Hokusai vibes so I built my card around that. I started by cutting it twice from white card and on one I coloured just the rocks using the stencil which helps get the colour only where you want it. On the other I coloured just the waves again with the stencil - firstly blocking in solid colour with a large brush, then adding some shaded detail with a smaller brush. I used salty ocean and salvaged patina for the blocking and then uncharted mariner over both for shading.
Next I used the Lighthouse Die to create a lighthouse - just using red and white and black card and a bit of glitter paper (white coloured with a yellow marker) for the light.
Next I cut the treasure chest from grey card with olive green trim, and an olive bottle with gold coins using the Inquisitive Pirate Die and layered up all the bits and set them aside whilst I prepared the backgound. I had originally planned for it to be on the beach but it covered up too much of the wave for my liking so I snipped off the bottom so I could tuck the coins and lid behind the wave as if it was being washed up on shore instead and I must say I like it more that way!
I used salty ocean and salvaged patina to create a nice bright blue sky and a scrap of Altenew card for my sandy beach with a little inking on the bottom for depth.
To assemble I tucked the lighthouse into the rock on the wave die (the one I had coloured the rock on) and placed it over the beach so the lighthouse almost touched the top of the card. I then took the other wave die cut and snipped off the rock element using scissors so I could layer it up and give the illusion of depth. I die cut the wave tips from white glitter card and added them to tops. I glued it in place and whilst it was still wet, tucked the top of the treasure chest behind the wave. I scattered the bottle and some loose coins on the beach then finished with a sentiment from Treasure Hunt Sentiments.
I think it turned out really well and feels bright and fresh and full of summer vibes!
Happy Crafting!
