One Die, Two Looks

One Die, Two Looks

Tara here today with a couple of completely different style cards made from one die - the Wild Wetlands die from The Greetery.

First off, I had to create one of the cards we never like to make, a sympathy card.  This was why I turned to a Greetery die - Betsy's designs are so classic and simple they are perfect for these type of cards.

For this card I wanted to keep it soft and neutral and classic - you don't want a sympathy card to scream at you.  So I created a soft background on a cream base card using the Capsule Basics Die also from The Greetery to create my base layers.  Both cut from thin white card and softly inked with oxides - bundled sage on the bottom and antique linen on the top - for this layer I added some mottled texture by lightly spritzing the whole layer with water and dabbing off with a paper towel (a handy tip to take off some ink if you went a bit heavy handed which I often do!)

I used Altenew card from our mixed colour packs to create the die cut - two shades of green, white and one pale blue and used anique linen to create the inner bit on the large flowers.  To create the sentiment I used Altenew's With Deepest Sympathy stamp (currently out of stock but we will order it if you request it via the out of stock system) by embossing in cream onto the darkest shade of green I used, then using the same die from the capsule to cut the curve in my strip of card.

The reason behind my second card is that we had a delivery from Pinkfresh Studio for a release on Tuesday and included with is was a whole lot of new coloured Ombré Glitter Drops which I am now completely obsessed with!   They are so sparkly and come in a brilliant range of colours!   They didn't fit on a sympathy card, so I made another card to show how different the die can look used in different colours.

The photo doesn't do the gems justice but they are all pink and purple ombré shades with a glitter back so they really sparkle!  This colour is called Twilight and will be in store on Tuesday along with the new release items too!

I used one single shade of green card and all the flowers are actually die cut from one shade of dark pink card too.  I just used inks to blend onto them to get some added interest - I really like starting with a coloured cardstock when die cutting as it makes the colouring process much quicker.

For the bullrush - I started with dark brown, added a little shading to one side with the antique lined oxide then used copics to add dots in 3 shades of brown on the opposite side to get that textured velvet look you get from a bullrush - we always had dried ones in the house in the 70s and I loved them!   Again hard to show on a photo but hopefully this shows you a little more detail.

I used a green pencil to add a little shading to the leaves and because I wanted this on a smaller card (the first was a 5x7 inch) I cut off most of the left hand side of the die.  To add a bit of balance I die cut an extra leaf and popped it behind the top pink flower before I went to town on the glitter drops!

The sentiment for this one is from probably my most used sentiment set - Sweet Lattice Sentiments from Waffle Flower Crafts - it has so many useful ones it rarely leaves my craft desk.

The background is more soft ink blending, from the bottom left corner fading to white using peacock feathers and salvaged patina oxides.

Hopefully that's given you some good inspiration and tips on how to get more looks from one product.

Happy Crafting!

Tara
