Distressed Glitter Butterflies!

Distressed Glitter Butterflies!

I've got something a little different to share for me today - although I have a tendancy towards CAS projects, I fancied a change today as I really wanted to play with the gorgeous old butterfly die from our new brand Gummiapan and given the vintage style I thought it would be good to go a little more distressed than I normally do.

I started by die cutting the butterfly 3 times from white glitter paper and used soft pastel coloured copics to colour them - colouring glitter paper is one of my favourite techniques - any alcohol based marker or ink works (dye based inks don't dry on the glitter).  Here I used 3 shades per butterfly (plus a dark grey for the bodies) - pale shade at the top, mid shade on the bottom and then a slightly darker one to add some detail around the edges and to the veins.

I used the same glitter paper to die cut the sentiment using Gummiapan's Chicago Alphabet Die.   I was really drawn to this alphabet as its unusual to get a cursive font alphabet die - my letter placement on birthday is a bit wonky but for a first play, I'm happy enough (and if you want it perfect just draw a light pencil line before glueing your words down)

To bring it all together, I opted for a DL (slimline) card so I could fit all 3 butterflies across in a line.  I started with a navy background and then used the Making Moments Press Plate from Altenew on some copy paper to get some vintage texture onto the corners.  I just tore a couple of pieces off the pressed paper, glued to the corners then used a couple of shades of oxides in similar blues and greens to give it a vintage look - edging the colour onto the other corners too.   It's quite subtle on the photos but the text is much clearer in real life.

There are so many fun dies in the new Gummiapan range - can't want to craft with a few more to show you a hint of what's available - we have loads more dies coming soon to add to their collection too!

Happy Crafting!
