Felted Stocking

Felted Stocking

I'm loving the new Lawn Fawn release so am back with another Christmas card today (I may have a stash big enough to send out by December for once!)   Today I wanted to play with the Christmas Stocking die and I thought it would be fun to cut it from felt to add realism and texture.

I started with the background and returned to the Quilted Diamond which I think is really pretty and a great one to add to your stash as it's not full on Christmassy so will work on projects all year round.   This time, after cutting it from kraft card, I flipped it over to the reverse - the top is really smooth but the reverse has a lot of tooth from the dotted details so it works brilliantly if you want to pull out the pattern more with a second colour.   Here I used a white distress crayon but you could use any wax or pencil crayon for a similar effect.  Popped onto a white base card so the white shows through the holes to match.

Felt does die cut really easily (although thin bits can tear as the ribbon did here but I just stuck it back together!) but one tip if you do struggle which works with thin cotton too is to add a sheet of copy paper over the fabric (so you have paper-fabric-die) and this helps get a crisp edge.  The dotted details are visible but hard to show on the photo - if you want them to be stronger then you can lightly spray your felt with starch and let it dry to 90% before cutting it - you can emboss it that way too!

Once I'd die cut and layered the stocking a stuck it to the base card and added two pompoms to the end of the ribbon ties.

To fill the stocking I die cut a couple of presents, a candy cane and a gingerbread man from the Build-A-Critter Christmas Accessories die just from card scraps and stuffed them into the top.  Finished with a sentiment from the Big Message Christmas Stamp - split to balance the top and bottom of the card.

Hope that's inspired you to give felt die cutting a go - do share your makes with us if you try it!

Happy Crafting!
