The fabulous new floral cake in the latest Greetery release was high on my "need it" list but it sold out before I could get to play with it, so I decided to use the mini cake die and some tiny flower dies to make a mini version.
I used the mini cake die set which has all the elements of the larger dies but in one perfect little set. I die cut a cake base from white card and then die cut it again twice more so I could stack up the "waste" to form a deep template. I placed that over the base die cut and used a spatula to spread some pearl paste into the template to make the cake look like it was covered in buttercream frosting. Then I removed the template and smoothed any edges.
To create the floral decorations, I used some of the small flowers and tips of leaves from the MFT's Flower Fillers die which are the perfect size to fit the cake. I then simply pressed each floral element into the wet paste to give the look of iced decorations. I die cut 3 candles from the cake die from gold with orange glitter paper flames and sank those into the paste too. I set it aside to dry over night.
For the rest of the card I used a square base, trimmed a panel of pink card slightly smaller and die cute a stitched circle from the centre. Although the sentiments in the newSweet and Fancy Label stamp are designed to fit in the label, they also work perfectly around round objects. So I used two to create my sentiment without the label.
Once the cake was dry, I die cut 3 tiny cake stands from gold and stacked them up for some depth and I glued it to the bottom of the circle die cut. I stuck the cake on top and to make it look more realistic, I shaped it with my fingers and used pinflair gel so I could support the deeper centre of the cake. This is a great way to add depth to your projects easily. The image below shows the shaping and depth a little better I hope.
