Wildflowers and Weeds

Wildflowers and Weeds

I've been marvelling at some of the recent cards shared by Debbie Hughes on her blog - I adore her water colouring style and desperately try to channel her when I try it, but I just don't have the painting skills. I do enjoy trying though and thought the new Wildflowers stamp from Reverse Confetti was the perfect candidate to pull my paints out for as my garden is full of weeds and wildflowers!

I stamped the image twice, masking off the right edge so I could overlap it slightly and changing the angle a bit to fill the wdith of my paper (I use windor and newton medium weight cartridge paper when stamping and watercolouring - it won't take a heavy soaking of water, but I find it works OK for me and is smooth enough to stamp on without issue)

I wanted a misty morning sort of feel so picked soft sagey greens, blues, purples and a tiny hint of pink. I used Altenew's watercolor paints - they are rich and creamy and highly pigmented so great work getting everything from a thin wash to a solid opacity. I added a few hints of metallics too. To emphasise the misty morning look I added a few splatters to the finished piece using 3 of the shades of paint I'd mixed. Once fully dry I overstamped the sentiment using Versafine Onxy Black into the flowers.

Hope that's inspired you to channel your inner Debbie too and get your paints out this weekend.

Happy Crafting.
