Woodgrain Poinsettia Frame

Woodgrain Poinsettia Frame

HI, Terri here! Today I am sharing a Christmas card, it is still July so I guess I did take part in Christma in July after all, lol..

I started by adding texture to a piece of A2 cardstock using the Woodgrain Texture Die. I then added the colour using the coordinating Woodgrain Stencils. They are a 2 part stencil, the first I used light brown ink, then I removed the stencil and lightly blended all over with the remaining ink on my brush. I used a much darker brown ink withthe second stencil to achieve a woodgrain effect.

Next I set about creating the poinsettia frame, initally I was going to crete a full rectangle frame but changed my mind half way through! I used the Poinsettia Frame Die and Stencil Combo to cut and ink blend the flowers and foliage, I like that the die set has additional dies for layering the elements or creating individual flowers and leaves. I chose to add a second layer to the poinsettias for a more realistic look, the second layer I slightly curled the petals for added dimention. You could use just the Poinsettia Frame Die and cut from coloured cardstock if you wanted.

To create the sentiment I used the Poinsettia Frame Stamp and Die Combo, it has several sentiments that fit within the frame apperture, in both landscape and portrait orentation. I love that it has the coordinating dies. I white heat embossed my senitment onto some dark burgandy cardstock and die cut. I added 2 die cut blank dieces to the reverse for stability.

Now was the fun part, putting it all together to create a cute Christmas card. I trimmed the woodgrain panrl to measure 4"x5.25" and added it to a white A2 note card. I then added the Poinsettia frame using foam pads, this is where I changed my mind and only used 1 part of the frame. I thought that too much of the woodgrain background would be covered if I used both parts. I added the sentiment, again using foam pads and finshed the card by adding white gel pen highlights the the flowers and foliage.
