Modern Poinsettias

Modern Poinsettias

I've got a couple of cards to share today using one of the lovely new dies from the Christmas release from A Pocket Full of Happiness - The Poinsettia Circle Die.   I really love the modern graphical twist they've given to the classic poinsettia shapes and the fact that it's in a circle means it's really easy to create a quick shaped card.

I have an obession with Altenew's Sapphire Glitter card at the moment so that's where I started my inspiration for these cards.  I die cut the circle once from the glitter card and popped all the elements out and set them aside for later.

I cut another from olive green and cut a matching larger circle frame from the same card.  I added the blue glitter frame to that green circle and added the leaves and stems into the frame.  For the flowers and berries, rather than cutting full frames, I just popped pieces of red card over the right areas in the die and cut them out.  For the dark red flowers I cut them twice, one went into the frame, the second set I folded on the crease lines and glued just that line to add some shaping, popping them inbetween the flowers on the base layer.  Adding a black enamel dot to the centre.   I filled the smallest circles in with Rhubarb stickles cos you can never have too much glitter at Christmas right???

I created a circlular card using a white folded base, overhanging the die by 1cm over the fold line to create a hinge and covering that with a navy circle using the same die.  A tiny sentiment on the same red as the flower and a cute circular card is done.

You know how I like a two-for-one - well I had all my leftover pieces of sapphire glitter that came out of the frame - too good to waste - so I decided I do a monochrome version.  I cut a white frame and used salvaged patina oxide ink to add some colour that would match the blue.  I added the frame straight to a white base card this time as you don't just have to create circular cards with this die.  I used the same folding trick on the leaves and petals to add a bit of dimension and interest and glued them in place.  I added a white pearl drops centre to the flower on this one to keep the colours to a minimum.

The sentiment on this one comes from Waffle Flower's Snow Fun Stamp and to keep it cohesive with the main element I embossed it in white, added more ink, wiped it off the white and then matted it onto more sapphire for a final touch of glitter.

Two very different looks from one die - which gets your vote?  Traditional or Monochrome???

Happy Crafting!
