Hay There Birthday

Hay There Birthday

Hello, Tallie here. I love a challenge when it comes to creating cards. This week's challenge was to create a birthday card for a horse mad relative, which I thought would be a lot harder than it was (I had visions of modifying unicorn stamps)! The only horse stamp I had was the Lawn Fawn Hay There stamp, so I created a simple little scene and used some no-line colouring.

I stamped out the scene, starting with the horse and working towards the tree in the background, using some Lawn Fawn Jellyfish ink on a panel of blending cardstock. I had to be a little creative with a few bits of sticky note to mask off the bits that would be in the background.

I always start with the background as the ink can sometimes bleed if you catch the edge. I used some bright blues for the sky and rich, warm browns for the foreground. The trick with no-line colouring is to boost the contrast between the dark and lightest colours (the highlights and the shadows) to make up for the fact you have no thick black line. I always leave the finer details - like the eyes or nose - until I can come in with my coloured pencils.

I stamped out the sentiment - created from two of the sentiments in the Hay There set - in some Versafine ink under the foreground mud.

To finish, I die cut the panel with a Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle and framed it on some Chilli Pepper cardstock.

My relative loved it and I even managed to use a stamp set that I hadn't yet used!
