Pottery Crazy
Hello again - I've got another post to share today, inspired by my currently weekly must not miss tv show - the great pottery throwdown - I'm obsessed and really want to play with clay! However as I have no opportunity to do that, I've done the next best thing and made a couple of cards packed full of vases made of paper that look like they could be clay if you squint a bit ;-)
I used the great new Mod Vase set from Altenew but for this make, I just used the dies and not the stamps. I cut them all from some green card and then set about giving them all different pottery like effects.
Starting from the left, for the first vase I went for a full on painted look by wrapping it in Misty Meadows washi tape. For the second I used Altenew embossing paste though the Sugar Pea Geo Snowflake Stencil. Once the paste was dry I used a distress crayon to blend a little green on top for some subtle shading. For the third I added some dark green ink to the bottom for an ombre effect on the green card and then applied a layer of crackle glaze over the top from the Ranger Distress Mini Collage Set - this gave the look of an old pot with all the crazing you get in old glazes. For the final pot (which I put upside down to fit my design better) I stamped the fern from Poinsettia Pieces in green and then applied a light wash of metallic watercolour paint over the top. The sentiment is from Altenew's Birthday Builder stamp set.
As I was having so much fun I decided to do another card. For the first vase on the left I applied a layer of paste just direct with my knife and then whilst it was wet I added embossing powder and heated it allowing a little of the white to bubble through. For the second I used the stame stencil and paste but whilst it was still wet added a little fine glitter. For the final vase I just used glossy accents to draw some lines to give it a tone-on-tone striped look. The sentiment comes from Birthday Builder again.
I'm pleased with my pots - and none of them were lost in a kiln! Why not have a go at paper pottery yourself?
