Ski Season

Ski Season

Sorry if you've come looking for Flashback Friday bargains - they will be back soon I promise but with the extra work we're doing behind the scenes on the website at the moment I've not had time to search our back catalog for bargains to reduce.   So I thought I'd share a couple of cards I made with the latest Waffle release which was perfectly timed for winter birthdays for my ski-ing friends.

When I saw the cable car die (gondola) I was really excited as I thought it would be possible to make an interactive card where the cable car moved on "wire" - using Waffle Flower's new metallic thread through the holes in the hanger part of the die - and I was right - it is possible and it works really well, so I thought I'd make my friend a box card scene.

Whilst the overall card looks great - I did mess up the mechanism!   I made the box to my own design just by cutting a sheet of card in half, folding and cutting a square from the front.   I added the new View Die to the back panel and free hand cut some hills for the fore and mid-ground.  I used the Winter View dies and the matching stamp for details.   Whilst it came out cute, I did mess up with how I attached my thread.  Because I added cable cars on thread in the mid-ground (I glued two cars together and sandwiched one stand of thread inbetween) and then attached the thread to the sides so it would be taut - this TOTALLY stopped the box card folding flat - doh!  I was handing it over in person so not such a huge issue but I know what not to do nex time!   I finished the card with the large cable car at the front - if you did that without the middle layer it would fold no issue as the thread for that is in the folds.  I added the snowboard to decorate the front - they're fun to make with the included stencil for the pattern.

If you want a sliding cable car but not the hassle of making a 3D card, then you can get the same effect my just using a layer of foam tape on a flat card to get enough dimension so the car still hangs and slides.

I used the same supplies but in the back layer just used the stamp to avoid anything that could snap the large car when it slides.  The only difference was that I used a craft knife to cut out the window openings in the sold layer of the cable car die so you can see through it.

Hope this gives you some new ideas to try.

Happy Crafting
