Birthday Bar

Birthday Bar

I personally do like making masculine cards, but I know lots of crafters find them challenging and there are definately fewer supplies for masculine cards around.   So I was quite excited by the new beer themed stamps and dies MFT released this month and I've knocked up my first card with them this weekend.

I love the little beer glasses in the Pint Sized Die set and wanted to make them the focus of my card, but they're not huge.  So I decided the best way to show them off was to give them their own bar to stand on.   The bar was a simple make - I just cut a strip of woodgrain card the sized I wanted and then took another strip with the grain the opposite way to become the bar top.  I added a strip of glitter card to the bottom with a couple of supports to become a foot rail at the bottom and a little strip to the top of the bar to match.  I added the bar to a card covered with a simple geometric patterned paper piece and then added a sentiment from the Here's To You stamp set on top.

For the glasses of beer, I die cut the 3 elements of each glass from white card and then coloured the "beer" element with copic markers in 3 shades - light yellow, yellow ochre and light brown.  I added some white highlights to make the glasses more glass like.   Once coloured I assembled the 3 layers inlcuding the foam and then to make the contents look fresh and cold took a few tiny spots of clear glaze to look like bubbles and condensation on the glasses.   I do like that as a finishing touch and added realism.

I added the glasses to the bar using foam squares so they look like they are standing on top of the bar.

You could do some many thing with this set from CAS simplicity, to all over patterns and if you wanted a bigger focal point then switch out the small glasses for the Frosty beer mug die instead - that can take you a million more ways (shaker, shaped card, gift card holder).   Beer lovers will be easily catered for from now on!
