Birthday Megaphone

Birthday Megaphone

I had an idea as soon as I saw the Hey Honeycomb Party Hat Die as soon as the latest collection from The Greetery was released, but as the Curly Q Streamers sold out so fast I couldn't make it until we got the restocks recently.  I thought I'd share the results today as I think it turned out to be a really fun make.

The shape of the hat reminded me of a megaphone and I thought that paired with the streamers suggesting sound waves could "shout" a sentiment across a card.

I die cut the hat from dragonfruit card and shaded the oval at the bottom with mahogany ink to suggest "inside" of the megaphone.  On the pointy end, I drew around the smallest pompom die in the hat set and trimmed it off with scissors to show the mouth hole opening of a megaphone.  Then I die cut the streamers from some watercolour wishes paper and layered them up with darker bits and slotted them through the cut in the hat and trimmed off the flatter ends so the waves ended in more of a point.

To create the card I used some shimmer paints to create a splatter background in a tonal shade of pink and then secured the megaphone and sound waves in place.  I used Mama Elephant's Marquee Alphabet Dies to die cut YAY from more dragonfruit card and added a stamped sentiment taken from the Four Square Birthday Tag Stamp by the Greetery at an angle following the sound waves to finish.

I'm really pleased with how this turned out, and it was quite quick to do as well so I might do a few more in other colours and maybe even a silver megaphone with rainbow soundwaves.  I might even try some other sentiments like congratulations - anything you want to shout would work!

There is not much news from the store this week - the only thing we hope might finally arrive is the Versafine Clair ink pads that have been delayed - latest update we got was last week of May so there is a chance but the bank holiday often delays things further.

Happy Crafting!
