Monkey Sea Monkey Do!

Monkey Sea Monkey Do!

Hello! Tallie here with this bright and colourful copic-coloured underwater scene card. The Avery Elle Monkey Sea Monkey Do stamp set was just calling out to be made into this adventurous scene!

Let's set the scene. Imagine these two little monkeys swimming somewhere nice and warm with clear waters and lots of fish. For me this is Turkey or the Great Barrier Reef! They'll be fishes all around and some shells and plants on the sea floor. They're not diving too deep as they're snorkelling, so the surface will be visible.

The first step was to stamp out the images from the Avery Elle Monkey Sea Monkey Do stamp set in some Lawn Fawn Jet Black Ink onto some blending cardstock. I spaced them out across the panel, though made sure to overlap some of the images to create a more natural scene. This involved a little bit of masking with a Post-It Note and some fixing with a black marker. I also drew in the sand line with the black marker. This will create a space for the sentiment to be stamped later.

And now for the fun part - the colouring! I always start with the background as you don't want the colours of the focal elements to bleed out into the background and spoil your card. For the water I used some blue-green markers and light earthy tones for the sand. I kept it streaky to imitate the water's movement and added in some dot detail to the sand to give some texture.

I chose some bright and bold, mostly warm colours for the elements to make sure they stand out in the foreground.

To create the bubbles, I simply used my colourless marker to wick away the ink. I then went in with some darker markers and a white gel pen to give the bubbles some defined shape.

The sentiment from the set was stamped out once the colouring was finished to ensure it didn't smudge. A touch of Glossy Accents to the eye masks and bubbles gave this underwater scene card the finishing touch!

Creating these scenes is a really good way of making the most out of the smaller stamp sets. Plus, you don't need the coordinating dies!

Give it a try. Please do tag me on social media if you give it a go! :)
