Takes the Cake!

Takes the Cake!

Happy Monday everyone!

The store was recently restocked with lots of items from the extremely popular Hip Hip Hooray collection from The Greetery.

One of my absolute favourite lines from that release is the Takes the Cake collection

There are several coordinating elements to get different looks, but for me it all starts with the Takes the Cake stamp and stencil combo set.

I used a selection of summery ink shades to stencil the floral elements on white cardstock and cut this out with the coordinating floral details die.

I then cut the cake background and icing elements from aqua and cream glitter cardstock using the Takes the Cake die set that can also be used as a stand-alone set.

Top tip: An easy way to create the coordinating candles for your cake is to use a solid stamp (like the rectangle one in the Playful Patterns set from Concord & 9th) to create blocks of colour for the candle and its flame.

For extra bling, I cut the cake stand die from Lawn Fawn gold metallic cardstock.

For the sentiment, I cut the banner die from white cardstock and blended aqua ink on the ends before stamping a sentiment from the Takes the Cake stamp set. There are also sentiments in the set to celebrate weddings, anniversaries, and well any occasion that calls for cake!

You can also personalise your card with alphabet or number dies as a cake topper.

I assembled all the elements of the cake except the candles, as I find it easier to add these at the end so that I can stick them down straight and not then realise all too late that they're all wonky. I learned that the hard way!

So, to complete the birthday look, I stamped the fantastic Sparkler background stamp on pale pink cardstock with pale pink ink for a tone-on-tone look.

It adds just enough subtle background detail without making the card too busy.

Until next time, happy crafting!
