Shine A Light

Shine A Light

I've been trying to find an alternative to chibi lights for ages as I've found them a bit tricky to work with the copper tape circuits.  So I've added these new lights to store today - one battery with 3 ready wired lights attached and not only do they light up, but if you do a double press, then they flash too so PERFECT for Christmas cards.   I didn't however make a Christmas card today - I wanted to light up the adorable little anglerfish from the latest Lawn Fawn release instead.

I've done a video showing how I assembled the card so head on over to YouTube for the full details as its easier to see that to say!  To create the scene I used a couple of die sets from MFT - The Under The Sea die which has lots of elements for creating an under sea scene - sand, rocks, and arch, coral, bubbles and kelp.  I die cut them all from white and used copics and oxide inks to colour them - using the inks with a sponge to get some realistic texture and algae.   I also used the Yellow Submarine die - die cutting that from yellow and silver pearl card but still using my markers to add some shading as I often think we forget we can colour die cuts and card as well as just white stamped images!  I added some vellum behind the portholes.

To ensure the lights were in the right place on my top layer, I needed to mark where I would stick them.  To do this I placed all the elments onto my blue blended square and used a pokey tool to make a mark onto the base card.  I then put the lights in place and drew around them so I could glue them accurately.   For the search lights on the sub I left them behind the card - for the angler fish I really wanted his light to shine so I make a hole in both the blue square and his actual light (I just used my pokey tool to make the holes as they were too small to use a punch or die)

I used foam tape to make space for the lights and battery behind the blue layer and then just assembled all the elements making sure the push here sentiment is over the button to turn the lights on and off.

Hope that's inspired you to light up your projects too.

If you're hear for news from the store - Concord and 9th and Waffle Flower and both currently in transit and we hope to have them by Tuesday......

Happy Crafting!
