Craft supplies aren't just for Christmas....

Sorry I've been MIA on the blog so far this year, it's taking me a while to get back into the swing of things and catch up with myself, but I needed a new home card today so thought I'd use that for todays post, giving Christmas stash a non-Christmas twist.   We spend so much on Christmas supplies that I like to stretch mine into year round use whenever I can.

I wanted to use the MFT Home for the Holidays kit in particular as it comes an easy to use led light - you just pop in the battery that comes with it and stick it behind your card, press it and hey presto the light shines out (in my case of the window)

To create the building I die cut the Right at Home Die from kraft, marked where I wanted the windows and cut them out with a craft knife, then used a coloured pencil to add some light lines for stonework.  I die cut a second pointed building part so I could use that to stick the light down onto and add some foam tape around (check out my instagram video here to see how I put it all together).  I added black roofs and blue doors and windows and used the step to create a lintel over the door too.  I die cut the lampost from black and the light for the top from vellum.   I added vellum behind the windows too.

To assemble the card I mounted all the elements (including trees from the Holiday Home Accents die in the kit) onto a blue oval.

The sentiments in the kit from the Home for the Holidays stamp are VERY Christmassy.   However, that's nothing a sharp pair of fine scissors can't fix.   I snipped apart two of the sentiments so I could spell out "MAY YOUR HOME BE FILLED with warm and cozy magic" and then I just extended the sentence by hand to become "magical memories"   Now if I look closely I can see the font and my handwriting aren't identical - but the recipient won't notice so I've learnt to let that stuff go and not get in the way of me making my stash work for me.

Hope that's given you a few new ways to look at your stash too.   If you want the kit (and the lights) there is just one left in stock and whilst we can restock the individual stamps and dies, we can't get the card and lights back as they are exclusive to the kit which MFT don't restock and it has already sold out for them.
