Framed Snowdrops

Framed Snowdrops

It's that time of year when you see the pretty white ovel flower buds of snowdrops sitting in upright bunches amongst the leaf litter in woodlands, hedgerows and gardens... they are such a hopeful sight in the cold winter. For todays project I have used the Altenew Craft-a-flower Snowdrop dies to create some winter magic for our home.....

I had intended to make a card using the dies but having assembled a bunch of stems and leaves I was either going to need a large square card base or better still, frame them... the frame idea won. This set is another one of those dies that you can use to cut out lots of pieces from offcuts of white cardstock, I make my own card bases and panels so often have white card strips and rectangles of different sizes left over. I cut as many pieces as I can, running the card through multiple times and using as much as I can. Being snowdrops they are simple to colour and I just used my Distress Oxide inks to apply colour to the leaves, stems and ovary's.

I assembled my flowers and stems before arranging them into a bunch and then decided they would look lovely in a box frame with some natural woven fabric behind them. I stretched the material over a piece of stiff card and then attached the snowdrop bunch using glue and foam dimension pads.... not all are attached to give more dimension and with them being behind glass they didnt need to be.

Just to finish the piece and create a 'botanical style' study, I added their latin name onto a handcut banner. I used Concord & 9th's Perfectly Penned on a piece of text print patterned paper and then cut a slightly curved banner. The paper already had an aged look so I just added a vintage look to the edges too and attached it using stacked foam pads for extra height. I was much easier not having to worry about how delicate the pieces were and if they would get damaged when not attached to the base. I'm so pleased with how it looks, a fresh hint to the promise of spring to add to my home decor. How lovely they would look as a trio with two of the other flower sets in this Altenew Craft-a-flower series... now there's a thought.

Thanks for stopping by, catch you next week :)
