Vase Upcycle

Vase Upcycle

If you know my crafting style, then you'll know that I like nothing better than making my supplies to do more than make cards - I'm a Yorkshire lass through and through and we like to get the most from our money!   So today I've taken a cheap tooth brush holder (£2) from poundland and upcycled it to a fern-fossil inspired vase just using my card making supplies.

It's a fairly easy process, but long and wordy to explain - so I've done my first "edited" YouTube video.  I've videod each step and strung it together - its a bit clunky - I haven't done a voiceover after so I'd kind of forgotten what I said "as live" in each section so apologies if its a bit odd.  I'll script the next one a bit better so it follows on and I'll learn where to keep things in the middle of the camera too......   You can watch it here.

Essentially all I've done is glued 3 large fern leaves from thick white card onto the pot with lawn fawn glue, gone over it with stencil paste (I would recommend using a non-pearl one such as the Altenew paste or a Gesso so the ink dries better) so the leaves look like a fossil and then I've added an ombre layer of colour using oxides.  To make it waterproof I added a layer of varnish to finish.

My crocheted cactus looks pretty cute in its new pot!

Hopefully the video explains things more clearly and you're inspired to give upcycling a go either for yourself or to make an inexpensive object look gift worthy!
