Herb Notecards

Herb Notecards

For todays blog post I thought I'd share a set of notecards I've made using an older hero Arts stamp set called Fresh Herbs. I intend to make a box style envelope to store them in, I think they'll make a lovely gift this Christmas. There are eight different herbs in the set so that's the number of cards I've made...

The notecards are quite simple and they proved to be good scrap busters too because I went through my card offcuts to find coloured card for the frames. I have used 4" square card bases so I cut the coloured card squares a quarter of an inch smaller and then used a square stitched die in my stash to make the aperture in the centre..... this set from Waffleflower contains a die that would make the same size aperture. I stamped the images with Distress Oxide inks onto the card fronts using the frames temporarily laid in place as a positioning guide......

I used a damp paintbrush to pull colour from the stamped images as Oxide inks react and move with water the same as the original Distress inks do. I pressed a few shades of green and grey oxide onto the Mini Media Mat and used a paintbrush to turn them into watercolour paint to add some extra depth to the leaves. When that layer had dried I used colour pencil to add some final spots of shading, especially to the solid twiggy images. The card bases are not watercolour card so I had to be careful not to soak them too much....

I gently added a pale wash of colour around the herbs and added the names in pigment ink when that had dried..... I do love the typewriter text with it's occasional double stamped letters. Then all that was left to do is add the frames which I adhered with foam pads and the set was done. I'm really pleased with them and love the colour combination for the frames too.... I'm sure they'll make a useful gift this Christmas :)

Thanks for stopping by, catch you next week :)
