Inlaid Die Cut Baby Foxes

I needed a new baby card this week but thought I'd give it a non-traditional twist by using the lovely Fox Family Die from Lawn Fawn and digging out a technique I love but often forget to use - inlaid die cutting.
This range of dies that Lawn Fawn has made from some of its popular stamp images are fab, but I think when shown with thick black frames can be a bit off putting and cartoony. For my foxes I opted for a frame in a tone to match their bodies. I die cut the "frame" and fillers from canned pumpkin cardstock and then separated the frames and used a darker marker to colour it. I used the same marker plus a couple of lighter orange shades to add some shading to the fillers too. I cut the face and tails from white and did a little shading and added black for the eyes.
I set my bits aside and started the inlaying process. I began with a circle of pale blue card and another circle of white covered with a sheet of double-sided adhesive. Set the white aside and pop the blue back into the die cut machine and using the solid mummy fox die, die cut the shape from the circle. Fit the mummy fox frame plus her body and right cheek loosely into the die cut hole and place the solid baby fox die on top and run back through the die cut machine. Now yoy have the perfect spaces to fit all the die cuts into the circle and for it to still be a flat image. See the images below and it should make more sense.
Peel the adhesive backing off the front of the white circle and place the blue circle on top - the adhesive in the gaps then makes inlaying all the frames and pieces much easier. I added a drop of glossy accents to give them both a nice healthy wet looking nose.
To finish, I just went with a simple sentiment from the lovely new Baby Face set by The Greetery - a very CAS card but I think that works for a new born card.
Hope that's encouraged you to give inlaid die cutting a go - do share your makes in our VIPs group on Facebook if you do!
Happy Crafting
