Graphic Weaving

Graphic Weaving

I've become obsessed with weaving and am desperate to buy a loom to play with but I don't have the room (or the time really!) to start another new craft.  So to get the weaving out of my system, I'm playing with weaving paper instead which is lots of fun.   I've made two cards today using the new Ring Panel Die from Waffle Flower Crafts as my base to weave the paper strips through.

For the first card I went quite simple - I started with some 5mm grey strips horizontally using the ovals to weave in and out of.  Then I cut 1cm strips of rainbow card strips (a good way to use up your narrow scraps!) and used those to weave vertically over the grey.   You can see the pattern clearly here before I turned it into a card.

I wanted to try more strips so made another - this time using pale pink, lilac and bright pink.  I cut 5mm strips for the horizontals as before but alternated between the two colours.  Then I did 1cm vertically again alternating.  This on its own gives a very different look, but I took it further by cutting thinner stips of bright pink - 3mm running vertically and then 2mm horizontally.  For the horiztonal strips I alternated the over and unders on each strip and similarly with the verticals although with that I repeated them in sets of 3 (so you have two going the same way on each edge and in the middle with one going the other way in the middle of each set - hard to explain but hopefully the image below makes it clear)

So as not to cover up the patterns too much I opted for a simple sentiment on each - a birthday wish and a new baby on the pink as the colours seemed to work for that occasion.

I'd love to see your paper weaving techniques so do share your makes in our VIPS group on Facebook or use our #madewithsevenhills hashtag on instagram/tiktok

Happy Crafting
