Movies and Chill

Movies and Chill

I was really excited by this month's card kit from MFT as we love a movie in our house - a weekly trip to the cinema was our regular date night when we first got together.  So you can expect to see a good few cards from me on this theme, and the first one today is more how we do our movies now - at home so you can pause them for loo breaks lol!

movies and chill die with fabric die cut couch and thor

I started with the couch from the movies and chill die and I fancied having a go at cuting it from fabric. Conventional wisdom on die cutting says that thin dies won't cut fabric, but I've found that with a couple of tricks you can do it.   This fabric is a from a cotton fat quarter bundle designed for quilting so its not too heavy.  I cut a piece just larger than the die set and used a sheet of double sided adhesive to back it onto some thin white card.  Using the card behind the fabric means you can get a good clean cut with no freyed edges even with a thin die.  Then its just a case of assembling the fabric back and two arms and cutting a base from card to sit it all on.

Next we needed to be sat on the couch so I used the "heads up die" which gives you lots of options of the backs of peoples heads and shoulders.   I went with the one with the arm out so we could get cozy.  You can personalise them with different hair styles and colours and obvoiusly clothing and then just pop them behind the sofa die so it looks like people are sat on it.

I die cut a rug to sit underneath the sofa from some blue card using the MFT Shadow Dies which are perfect to ground your images and one of my most used die sets

To create my TV Screen, I decided to add a little realism and to make it more personal by picking a still from one of our favourite movie franchises.   This is dead easy to do - just find an image, paste it into a picture editing program (or even word works) and resize it to fit the die - so 4cm by 8cm.  I die cut the screen from black card, stuck Thor in the middle bit and and then put the frame around it.

To create the card I started with a grey back ground and popped the TV at the top.  I added the people on the couch over the top deliberated putting their heads over the top of the screen to give depth to the scene.  I finished with a sentiment from the same collection Picture Perfect Sentiments, which are packed full of movie themed sentiments for lots of different occassions.

Hope that's given you techniques to try with fabric scraps and ways to make your cards personal to you and yours.

Hope you're enjoying your Easter breaks and the bunny brought you lots of choccies.
