Scene Building with Stacey Yacula for Purple Onion Designs

We've had a few comments from customers who love the new collection from Purple Onoin Designs but were unsure how to use the stamps to build a scene, so I thought I'd address that today and the best was seemed to be to create a video showing the process.  It's really not as difficult as it might seem.  All you need is a little forward planning, some masking paper (or post it notes) and then you can build endless scenes to your hearts content.

That is the finished scene - have a watch of the video so you can see the technique in full, but essentially:

  • Stamp the images on scrap paper the size of your final project - without masking - to plan out the layout.
  • Stamp the images that need to be masked (you mask off anything that will be infront of anything else on the final image and work from front to back) on masking paper and cut them out {keep the masks with the stamps for future use)
  • Make some light pencil marks where you want to stamp the foreground characters and elements on your scene.
  • Starting with the image closest to the front, stamp onto the card front and add the mask (in this case it was Hugh the snail)
  • Repeat the stamping and masking process until you get to the background image (in this case it was rainbow falls)
  • Remove the masks to reveal the magic!
  • Colour in your chosen medium - I opted for pencil and watercolour washes.  The pencil acts as a release so you can apply the watercolour in the background over the top which makes colouring the background easier.

I hope that's encouraged you to give scene creation a go - I think it's one of the most creative types of stamping you can do and helps the frustrated artist in me that cannot draw to create pictures that change everytime I stamp them out!

NEWS FROM THE STORE

There is a new release from Waffle Flower Crafts coming - can't reveal too much but postage collage fans should stand by their beds ;-)    It's released on the 5th but a few sets aren't due to reach them until a couple of days before so it might be a few days after the 5th before we get it here.

Concord and 9th have a release on the 9th as usual - and we'll have that along with the mini release they did last month that wasn't originally available to retailers.  We should have it around the 11th fingers crossed as they never ship before the 9th.

That's all the news for this week.

Happy Crafting!

Tara
