Hats off to ewe!

Hats off to ewe!

Hey there, today I am sharing a congratualtions card. Our UK students have been through so much stress and uncertanty recently due to the effect Covid has had on exams.  I thought it would be good to create a card to celebrate their success.

Todays focus in on masking, so I have kept the colouring rather simple. Hve you ried to use masking in your card making? It's a great way to create a scene without adding bulk to your card, also if you dont have coordinating dies and aren't a fan of fussy cutting then maksing in something to try.

I started by stamping the pig and sheep in alcohol friendly ink. I then stamped the hats. Next I created a mask for the animals and hats. You can make masks out of lots of things, sticky notes, scrap paper or seciality masking paper which is sticky on the reverse and stops ink from bleeding through to the underside. I stamped the images on to maskign sheets as I find them the best option.

Next I stamped the fence with the masks in place, this gives the impression that the animals are stood in front of it. I cut masks for the fence and added these, it doesn't matter that they go over the animal mask as I am ink blending next.

I used distress oxide inks to blend the sky and grass areas with a brush, I added a little texture with some splats of water.  I then removed the masks and coloured the images.

The sentiment comes from 2 stamp sets, one said hats off to you! But I love a pun so wanted to use the word ewe instead. To do this I added the sentiment to my acrylic block and placed some sticky tape over the word you, I inked the stamp and then removed the tape, this let me stamp the sentiment minus the bit I didnt want. I then took hte next sentiment, masking everything apart from the word ewe, inked it, removed the tape and stamped into the void between the word to and the exclamation mark. This worked perfectly as the word I ommited and the word I added both had 3 letters.

I hope that if you haven't already, you will give masking a try, it really is a great way to take your cards to the next level. Also if you share on socaial media please use the hashtag #madewithsevenhills
