Floral Splendour

Floral Splendour

Having been doing a bit of work in the garden in the sunshine I was feeling floral this weekend so decided to ink up a couple of new floral stamps from Colorado Craft Company and I've loved colouring them!

I started with one of the Lovely Legs range - the first in a new seasonal floral collection the summer season version - Sunflowers.  I really like the legs and for those who find the "cut-off heads" versions difficult, then these ones were the face is just hidden may be easier to deal with.  As always with this brand, there are loads of fabulous sentiments and I picked one so I can send this to a friend who's having a tough time right now but it includes birthdays, thinking of you and lots of others for many occasions.

This is a one layer card, coloured directly on to the base card with pencils.  I do find pencils are my go to medium at the moment either alone or with markers and paints but pencils give me control over fine detail and as I often colour lazing on the sofa in front of the TV, they're easily portable too.   Here I used polychromos by Faber Castel and Derwent Artist Pencils.

Whilst I was in a floral mood, I also inked up one of their Big and Bold range - which as the name suggests are big and bold stamps!   They are 6x6 inch stamps and here I opted for the Anemone & Alium stamp as both are flowers I have in my own garden!

I've not completely decided what I'm doing with this yet - but I might frame it as I think it would brighten up one of our walls.   Again it's just the same two pencil brands used to colour the whole image.   I'm not going to pretend this was a quick make - it took around 5 hours for me to colour - but it was worth it, both for the joy of making and also I'm really thrilled with the finished piece!   This is also one of their more complex design, and there are easier ones to start with if this looks too daunting to begin with.  I used to look at my colouring heros online and be put off trying, I'm now happy that my best is good enough for me and stop comparing myself to proper artists!   So have a go and see what you can do with practice.
