Mother's Day Whirl

Mother's Day Whirl

I'm getting in a last minute Mother's Day card ahead of next weekend using the latest interactive die from Lawn Fawn and the big bold new sentiment set from The Greetery.   Whilst my Mum isn't around anymore I do still make mother's day cards for her sisters (one is my God Mother and the other just can't be left out!)   So I thought it would be fun to give a Mother's Day twist to some florals with the Give It A Whirl Die.

I know there have been some discussions on socials about the mechanism for the Give it Whirl die sticking and if copy paper was the right weight for the bit that joins them together.   Well, I did an online retailers class with Kelly one night last week and we put a die set together so we've ironed out the issues people have pointed it.

1)  Copy paper is the right weight for the folded oblong - you just need to make sure that both sides are FULLY covered in glue dots (or wet glue if you can bear to wait to play with the mechanism til it dries) and make sure any excess is completely removed.

2)  You need to make sure that the oblong is completely to the very edge of the cut line on both the circle dies which should be cut from 80lb card stock.

3)  You need to "work" the mechanism a couple of times - feeding it through the slot and training it (adding some anti static powder or talc at this point can help it glide)

4) No die cut elements on the top layer as they will stick.

I didn't have time today but I'll do a video showing how to put them together during the week so I can show the sticking points and how to avoid them.

For my card I started with the base die set and die cut two of the smaller circles from copic colouring card.   One I left plain, the second I stamped with florals from the Altenew Paradise Flower Dynamic Duo Set.  I coloured this with Altenew markers to keep the design flat.

Once joined together with the plain white circle I added the turning handle and set it aside to dry.

For the base layer I used a pink patterned paper and stamped Happy Mother's Day using purple versafine clair to make a big bold statement.  You can put die cuts on this base layer but a flat layer means its much easier to whirl around.  I used the new To Mom With Love Stamp as the large sentiment is the perfect fit for the give it whirl base layer.  The Add-On Scalloped Die is the same size so I used that one this time for the added curls to look like a flower.

To give it a more girly feel, I used the new Garden Backdrop die on my base card to ground the flower centre into a garden. Test that nothing will get in the way of the mechanism if you're using die cuts on the base.

NEWS FROM THE STORE

We're still working on the store upgrade.  We're aware that there are issues with the layout on the new products we've added, wishlists and a few other items.  We'll get them fixed as soon as we can.   Please bear with us and if you find another issue we've not mentioned - please email a screenshot to us or send it via FB Messenger and we'll take a look.

Due this week:

Markers and the latest release from Altenew plus some restocks.

The latest release from Waffle Flower crafts and some restocks.  We've had a few emails asking about grip mats.  As we said at the end of last year, they are changing manufacturer for them so we got all the sizes we could in December.  Any sold out sizes now won't be back in stock here or anywhere until they get their first shipment - all we know is that will be in Q2 so anytime between April and June.

We will be ordering the latest Concord and 9th release along with colour restocks (providing they have supplies left), the new Mama Elephant release and Greetery restocks for delivery around mid-March.  We hope to have some Lawn Fawn restocks by the end of the month too.

That's all for now.

Happy Crafting.
