Ornate Florals

Ornate Florals

We've caught up on last month's Altenew releases this week and there are quite a few sets I want to play with, but this fabulous new floral die was the first one I had to get my sticky fingers on - Ornate Flowers - as it has lots of fabulous details to play with.   I've made 2 cards with it, and you might have caught me sharing the making of the second one on Facebook live earlier this afternoon as the sun is finally out so I felt like sharing some crafting with you for once.

For the first card, I mostly just used the dies from the Ornate Flowers set - one of my favourite ways to add interest to a background is to create a faux embossing effect.  With this one I just cut the curly die several times from white card covered with stick-it on the back for speed and then arranged them all over my base card.  To add a bold pop against the WoW background I cut one large flower and 3 leaves again from white and used oxide inks to blend some shaded colour onto the layers.   I finished with a simple birthday sentiment on a banner (Greetery Tear Strip Banner Die)

For the second card I cut a couple of flowers in shades of purple, added some shading and dotted details to some and layered them up with some leaves using Concord and 9th cardstock.  I wanted some similar colours in the background so used the Color Spots stencil from The Greetery to add some soft shading in tone-on-tone colours (shaded lilac and bundled sage oxides)   I finished with a simple sentiment again from The Greetery from their "let's have a word" die cut series - this one is congrats.

Hope you managed to watch the live - if not, you'll find it here on repeat and hope it shows how you can get very different looks from the same products.

We've just had the June Stamp and Die release from Altenew delivered this afternoon too so are working on adding that now.

Happy Crafting

Tara
