Happy Hollyhocks

Happy Hollyhocks

I couldn't wait to play with the new BotaniCuts Hollyhocks die today - hollyhocks are one of my favourite flowers but try as I might, I cannot keep them alive in the garden, so a paper version is much easier for me to get right!

My first idea was how beautiful they would be to watercolour paint so that's what I've done today.  I die cut the whole die still joined together from cartridge paper and used post-it tape to keep it all in place whilst I slapped some colour on and I really did just slap as I'm not a brilliant painter - but this shows you really don't need to be!

Once it was dry, I went back in with a little detail and then layered the flowers up using the guide included in the set.   You get a spare stem so you can create different shaped clusters but I didn't use that.   I wanted to create the illusion of a thick patch of flowers, so I just cut the stems again from tissue paper and added some crepe flowers onto two stems in the background (layered over a dark purple oval).   They look rough on their own, but once you add the focal die on top, it's a quick and easy way to get a soft background.

To finish I added a scripty hello sentiment die cut from pink card to tie into the flowers.   Simple but striking and all complete in under 30 minutes.

Happy Crafting!
