Mica Magic

Mica Magic

I'm back! Did you even notice I wan gone lol? I took a short break but today I am easing myself back in with a fun technique using Mica Powder.

For this technique I used Altenew's Brick Rosette Builder Stencil and a Versamark Ink pad. It's important to use a really sticky pad so if your pad is a little dry you will need to reink it or purchase a new one.

I secured a piece of smooth black card to the back of one of the stencils (there are two in the set). I then used an ink blending tool with a foam pad to pounce the Versamark ink through the stencil.

I then removed the stencil and added Mica Powders to each of the sections, I tap off an excess into a piece of folded scrap paper. I then use a soft brush to buff the surface and remove and smudges.  I use the same process with the second stencil to build the full pattern.

To set Mica powder and stop it from rubbing off I use the spritz and waft technique. pritz some clean water into the air and waft/pass the card  through the air, the water sets to powder allowing it to cling to the cards surface.

I then added this to an A2 note card and die cut the sentiments using the You Matter die set. I love the mix of styles in the set and the fact that the large You has the backimg/mat layer.

Remeber the Mica powder I tapped off onto a piece of folder paper? Well you can use those to either have a mixed blend of powder or you can add them to a bit of water to paint with or place in a spritz bottle to create a shimmer spray.
